My First impressions of openSUSE 12.1 M3
I downloaded the KDE Live image last night and started the installation about 20 minutes ago.
So far, so good. KDE is still on 4.6.5. I wonder a bit why it isn´t a testing-version of KDE 4.7 already?
I made the test with VirtualBox OSE, so I can´t judge about the graphical interface of KDE, but it looks good so far.
I was a bit disappointed by the panel. It´s still to small to do serious computing (TM) with it. I fixed this on my own installation of openSUSE 11.4 and do the same with every openSUSE/KDE installation I run.
Nevertheless, KDE seems to be good integrated into openSUSE. Or should I say, openSUSE && the delivered programs are good integrated in KDE?
Anyway, it seems to leave a good impression. I haven´t tested Firefox or a Thunderbird-installation yet, because I´m a bit to busy with the new German Wiki (It´s really fun to remove all broken Mozilla-Links, yeah!).
And BTW, I´m sure there new packages in factory already, so if you give openSUSE a try (background voices: DO IT! DO IT!) please do a zypper dup when you´re root.
And yes, of course, this text is CC´ed (In case of Creative Commons) so, feel free to share this text and the pictures and spread the word out about openSUSE.
Remember: It´s Linux 20th this year, why not achieve world domination on this nice date :-)
Believing is everything ;-)
